Purpose Driven was born when Rick Warren began gathering pastors in Orange County, California in the 1980’s to encourage them in their ministry as they pursued greater health for their churches. His efforts have consistently emphasized organizational health over growth, founded on the principle that growth is a natural outcome of health.

 

Since then, over 300,000 churches worldwide have benefited from the Purpose Driven model—growing healthier churches, producing healthier disciples through an intentional growth pathway. The ministry prioritizes investing in church leaders through events, resources and relationship in ways that foster health and longevity.

Para-church Discipleship and Leadership Resources and Events

Nicole Knox served as the Director of Marketing for Purpose Driven Ministries. During her tenure, the organization scaled from 14 staff to over 200 in support of product growth expanding into 42 international markets. In this capacity, Knox oversaw the creation of an in-house agency supporting multiple lines of ministry by providing brand and marketing strategy for resources and events. The nonprofit spanned church campaigns, Celebrate Recovery, worship, youth, children's ministry and a portfolio of publishing assets released through Zondervan and Pastors.com.

Publishing

Since it's release, The Purpose Driven Life has sold more than 50 million copies sold and translated into 137 different languages. Just one resource in a collection by author, leader and pastor Rick Warren, each title is supported by robust multi-media content and digital resources that encourage and guide readers toward Biblical spiritual health and growth.

U.S. Campaigns

The core tenants of The Purpose Driven Life were created by author, leader and pastor Rick Warren as a unifying spiritual journey for his home congregation at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA. Inspired by unifying, transformational outcomes, Warren expanded on the Biblical focus of the book to develop a sermon series, life group study, youth and children's components. Over 50,000 churches of all sizes and denominations walked through the 6 week journey, which was followed up by subsequent campaigns including 40 Days of Purpose and the Peace Plan.

Event Development & Marketing

Purpose Driven hosted several hundred thousand conference and event attendees on the campus of Saddleback Church annually through a series of practical and powerful events. The lineup included Warren's Purpose Driven Church Conference, along with dedicated leadership events for Worship, Youth and Children's ministry. The Biblical, para-church lens of the Purpose Driven paradigm identified church and leader health as the foremost priority, seeing growth as a natural outcome of health.

Leadership Development

The Purpose Drive Church, Warren's precursor to The Purpose Driven Life leans into timeless and transformational Biblical truths, equipping ministry leaders for health and longevity. The book, which illuminates scriptural prinicpals and offers personal insight from Warren gathered along his journey from a church of one family to a church of more than 25,000 with multiple satellite campuses. In addition to leadership resources, the principles inspired a series of high-impact events, a pastoral coaching network and the annual Purpose Driven Church Health Awards.

Purpose Driven Celebrate Recovery .png

Celebrate Recovery

Founded by pastor and author John Baker, Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered 12-step program that helps people with addiction, codependency and other "hurts, habits and hang-ups." The program is founded on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and eight principles from the Beatitudes. CR hosted annual summits at Saddleback Church and around the country. The program encompassed a rich array of resources for churches, leaders and participants.
